We do want to mention that our members have access to Pastured Poultry most of the year. We offer a Grab&Go option that members can purchase from The Farm Shed anytime. While we try to keep inventory, these options are never guaranteed to be there and come at a small price premium. If you would like to become a member of our farm, please consider signing on as a Basic Member, and you will have access to all of the products outside of the subscriptions.
Purchasing, planning out feed costs, building chicken tractors, etc. happens looooong before these chickens end up in your freezer, so having a heads up on demand allows us to plan ahead to accommodate your needs.
Since it is difficult to project how many chickens we will sell each year, we have decided to set up a subscription program where you will pick-up a pre-determined number of fresh chickens in May, July, September & November. 4 batches total!
Pastured poultry is hard to come by these days, so invest in a small chest freezer to be sure your family has quality meat throughout the year! You can easily find them for $150 brand new.
Our birds can range from 5-7 lbs., so price per bird can be anywhere from $22.50-$31.50. They tend to be closer to the 6 lb. range, putting most of them right around $27 each.
Pastured chickens cannot be raised in the winter, so most people project out how many they will need for the full year! To do this, simply take how many chickens you plan to need for the year and divide it by 4 batches.
For example, many of our customers need about 40 for the year. 40/4=10 so you would subscribe for 10 chickens per batch in order to have enough for the year.
If you tend to use about one chicken per week, that is 52 birds for the year. Dividing that by four batches would have you signing up for 13 birds per batch.
Just a few examples to help you work through the numbers!
Contact us if you need some help figuring out how many you will need. God knew Amy would use her Finance degree (a.k.a. Excel) somehow in this world of homemaking! We are happy to help :)
